The Ultrasound Imaging and Therapeutics Research Laboratory seeks self-motivated and talented individuals to participate in and to support operation of a large research laboratory. Our mission is to develop and translate approaches, devices, algorithms and agents with clinical impact based on a synergistic combination of biomedical imaging, image-guided therapy, and bionanotechnology. Overall, we are a collaborative, full-spectrum research group leading the discovery, development, and integration of biomedical imaging technologies and theranostic agents in both fundamental research and clinical arenas.
The Ultrasound Imaging and Therapeutics Research Laboratory is part of the School of Electrical & Computer Engineering, and the Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University School of Medicine.
Several positions are open:
- Ph.D. in science or engineering (biology, chemistry, physics, biophysics, electrical, mechanical, biomedical engineering is preferred);
- Five or more years of experience in laboratory research or equivalent research environment;
- Full technical ability for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating research projects;
- Research with substantial scientific, translational or clinical impact, and development of intellectual property;
- Previous project management experience in a research setting;
- Ability to act independently on technical matters pertaining to projects and laboratory;

- Conceive, plan, and conduct individual research in broad areas relevant to the mission of the laboratory (imaging, therapy and contrast/therapeutic agents;
- Serve as the technical lead for the laboratory in your area of expertise;
- Plan and direct a number of collaborative research projects including coordination of research activities between groups and disciplines;
- Develop new instruments, materials, processes, scientific methods, approaches and algorithms;
- Responsible for directing others; plans, organizes, and supervises the work of laboratory scientists, engineers, and technicians. Evaluate progress and results obtained, recommend major changes to achieve overall objectives;

- Experience in optics, ultrasound, imaging and instrumentation;
- Training in optics/photonics and acoustics;
- Practical experience in area of laser-tissue interaction, ultrasound and photoacoustic imaging;
- Proficiency with modern laboratory equipment such as solid-state and gas lasers, ultrasound transducers and arrays, computer acquisition systems, motion control systems, etc;
- Experience in mechanical design automation applications such as SolidWorks;
- Experience in optical design automation applications such as Zemax.

Research Scientist
This individual will identify, propose and execute new strategies/initiatives that are critical to the mission of the laboratory, and guide laboratory research as well as institution-wide and inter-institutional collaborative studies. Research Scientist will provide scientific and technical oversight to the operation of a research laboratory focused on in-vitro/preclinical/clinical imaging. The Research Scientist will interact on a consistent basis with graduate students, post-Doctoral fellows, collaborators and other researchers, provide intensive mentoring and training of research staff, and report to the Principal Investigator.

Research Engineer

Research Laboratory Manager
This individual will provide functional oversight to the operation of a large research laboratory consisting of wet and dry labs, cell culture facility, animal imaging room, and other facilities. This position will require the individual to participate in the technical aspects of laboratory research, support on-going and future lab needs, and apply creativity in troubleshooting and developing new techniques customized to basic science and clinical research projects. A successful candidate will be able to work independently or with other lab members with extensive research experience and scientific background. The Research Laboratory Manager will interact on a consistent basis with graduate students and other researchers, provide intensive training of research staff, assist with research projects, and report to the Principal Investigator.
